"Blaue Scheibe und Stab [Blue Disc and Stick] (1968) is one of Blinky Palermo's most celebrated 'Objects', created at a time of great discovery and creativity in the artist's life. Palermo created a series of two-part wall works in the late 1960s, but Blaue Scheibe und Stab is the only one which was intended to stand on the floor instead of being hung like a painting. The artist, who was perhaps most famous for the inclusion of fabric in his works, here employed yet another non-artistic medium, thick adhesive tape, which added a special dimension to the piece: 'the blue tape engulfing the disc and the stick functions much like the fabric in the Stoffbilder, asserting its ready-made identity at the same time that the work's sublime beauty transcends it.


Although color was always a key element of Palermo's work, Klaus Schrenk believes that the blue tape's physicality, in addition to its hue, is crucial to the success of the piece: 'The slight overlap of the tape creates a surface structure which has a very special part to play in this work. The shaky equilibrium which obviously exists between the upright rod and the disc is corrected visually by the horizontal lines of the tape. This absence of a latent stability in this two part work may also be the reason why the artist chose to relocate it from the wall onto the floor. But here there is no hovering in space, no extension of the two-dimensional into the three-dimensional, as is the case with Palermo's wal lpieces. Instead, Palermo packages the centrifugal forces that are locked up in the disc - forces which threaten to upset the work's instability any moment."

An accomplice has the same degree of guilt as the person he or she is assisting, is subject to prosecution for the same crime, and faces the same criminal penalties.
As such, the three accomplices to the bank robbery above can also be found guilty of armed robbery even though only one stole the money.

One passage reads,

The Entry Way

"Italian architect Ettore Sottsass designed a spectacular home for a Belgian gallerist. The house is like a small city, with centrally a huge cage where the owner has his favourite birds. On the side of the birdhouse are the different night-and dayrooms of the family. On the top floor there is a large kitchen and dining room, almost like a restaurant. Although the house is huge and the rooms very spacious, Sottsass created a cosy, bohemian feeling atmosphere."

"I design places to be in and, even if existence is not definable, I know a few recurrent motifs: for instance, to look out of the window, to see the sun going through it or filtered by a veranda, to live in high or low rooms, wide or narrow doors, corners to shelter in without having to look outside, to possess a terrace to grow plants on, to go long or short distances - places that don't tell you what they are or places where you just look.

I try to design them so that the people living in them can be aware of these different moments."

There is something so captivating about this home that Ettore Sottsass designed
for this gallerist. I could stare at this entry way for hours.

"FOR years, when the artist Steven Parrino wasn’t jamming power chords on his electric guitar or tinkering with his motorcycle in his garagelike studio in Brooklyn, he was recycling his unsold paintings: twisting them into eccentric new shapes, smashing their stretcher bars or stabbing them repeatedly with scissors."

A retrospective of Steven Parrino’s works, left, surfaced at the Gagosian Gallery in September. Mr. Parrino, right, who recycled his unsold paintings, died from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident in 2005. His destructive approach to art making earned him the admiration of some fellow artists, but it also concealed a painful reality: There was no market for his work. In eight years and five solo New York shows, his former dealer José Freire said, he sold only two of Mr. Parrino’s paintings, one for $9,000 and the other for $10,000.

Then, on New Year’s Day 2005, Mr. Parrino died from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. Demand for his art has since increased, and in September a Parrino retrospective that had toured European museums surfaced at the Gagosian Gallery on Madison Avenue. With Gagosian’s high-profile endorsement and a limited number of works for sale — only two paintings and a dozen drawings out of 56 exhibited works — the top price for a Parrino in that show reached nearly $1 million.

ltd is pleased to announce Memory Objects, the first Los Angeles solo exhibition of emerging sculptor, Ginger Wolfe-Suarez. Wolfe-Suarez explores the psychology of built space and perceptions of place while re-engaging notions of sitespecificity. Approaching fragility and impermanence, the material, textural, and odiferous with the same complexity as site and scale, Wolfe-Suarezʼs sculptures operate phenomenologically, the exhibition space reformed into a temporal and experiential zone for the viewerʼs body. Utilizing a material palette of wood, rock, paint, transparencies, light, yarn, as well as various odors and scents, “Memory Objects” includes recent sculptures and installations questioning how moments are made physical.

"Donald Judd (1928 - 1994)
was a seminal Minimalist sculptor, known for his total commitment to formal exploration, as well as his intensity of color and the sensuousness of his surfaces. Though originally a painter, Judd made extremely little two-dimensional work. This exhibition of prints from the 1960s offers an extremely rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of this lesser-known aspect of his practice. Though these prints were made at the height of Judd’s career, Judd’s interest in printmaking began in the mid 1950s, and extended throughout his career, including a brief collaboration with his father, Roy, in the early 1960s.

This exhibition is on view in conjunction with the Judd Symposium, taking place in Portland, OR on Sunday, April 25, 2010."

Independence Day: Families often celebrate Independence Day by hosting or attending a picnic or barbecue and take advantage of the day off and, in some years, long weekend to gather with relatives. Decorations (e.g., streamers, balloons, and clothing) are generally colored red, white, and blue, the colors of the American flag.. Parades often are in the morning, while fireworks displays occur in the evening at such places as parks, fairgrounds, or town squares.

"Suprematism is an art movement focused on fundamental geometric forms (in particular the square and circle) which formed in Russia in 1915-1916. It wasn't until later that suprematism received conventional museum preparations."
