"On view at the London Design Festival 2010 at the V&A is Michael Anastassiades's Kinetic Light, swinging in the Norfolk House Music Room at the V&A, like a silent metronome. "I wanted to design something to suit the room," said the desiger.

Michael Anastassiades trained as a Civil Engineer and is an Industrial Design graduate from zhe Royal College of Art. After working as a freelancer for various design consultancies, he set up his own studio in 1994. Since then he has been developing his work as a combination of product, furniture and enviroment design - creating works which established a psychological dimension between objects and users.

For years Michael has produced his work in very limited quantities as editions of quality crafted pieces and small runs. In 2007 he set up a company to increase the availability of his objects. He travelled around the world and located small family run workshops to fabricate his pieces. The workshops were selected for their unique manufacturing skills and tradition in the use of materials."

"Christopher’s career has been a fascinating one; in 1986, having just left Goldsmith’s College of Art, he took on a derelict shop in a small street in Belgravia. It opened with a small loan and stock found in markets and borrowed from friends, relying only on candles for lighting. A year on, after some building work the shop re-opened with a window displaying a Gae Aulenti lamp and a pair of Pierre Paulin white vinyl Tulip Chairs, an innovative style which has remained the essence of Christopher’s approach to antique dealing ever since."

Darkroom, London

Darkroom is a new concept on Lamb’s Conduit Street, London WC1. We curate an eclectic mix of high-end fashion, interior and lifestyle accessories alongside bi-monthly art and sculpture exhibitions.

Darkroom explores several concepts – at the forefront is the crossover between fashion and interiors and with it the juxtaposition of materials, scale and form. Oversize plaited quilted scarves resemble eiderdowns whilst jewellery made from chunky rope evoke Sculptural furnishings. Alongside this, leather accessories take strong influences from saddlery, and oversize trims such as heavy fringing and chains feature strongly. Our interior accessories explore the diverse materials, textures and production techniques of clothing or jewellery. Boundaries between art and design are questioned by functional pieces that also hold sculptural qualities – a necklace may be worn traditionally or hung on the wall as an objet d’art. We will also be indulging our personal obsession with primitive art, textiles and jewellery and presenting them in new contexts.
