Fern Brooklyn.

"American hardwoods,
reclaimed antique timbers, and salvaged objects. "

I was recently introduced to the
work of Jason Roskey of Fern NYC.
His company, Fern NYC, is just launching, and I was lucky enough to be sent some images, and a link to his site where he will be updating as the work gets released.
Lamps, side tables, coffee tables to come soon!

One of the thrills of YHBHS and studying INTERIORS at UCLA is
the introduction to such amazing people and visions.
I know this is just the beginning. Hopefully when I am in Brooklyn later
this year, I'll have the opportunity to drop by Jason and Maggie's studio,
and see some of the pieces in person, and meet them face to face.

Fern is a Brooklyn-based furniture company crafting heirloom quality furniture from American hardwoods, reclaimed antique timbers and salvaged objects. The company strives to create contemporary yet timeless designs using sustainable practices whenever possible. Fern also provides design services and produces sculptural objects in limited editions.
Fern was founded by Jason Roskey and Maggie Goudsmit in 2009."

Any favorite buildings?
Donald Judd's "Arena" in Marfa, Texas might be a perfect space.

------

Any specific design influences?
Lately, I've been looking at a lot of artist-designed furniture such as
Joseph Beuys' tables and shelves.

-------

Music you listen to in your studio?
Digging the new Bonnie 'Prince' Billy and
"At Echo Lake" from Brooklyn band, Woods.

Aspirations for FERN?

Our philosophy is as simple as we want like to build things to last. In addition to the
furniture, we hope to do more design work with a focus on residential

and hospitality interiors.

-------

Any chance to see your furniture on the west coast anytime soon?
We definitely want to have a West Coast presence. The plan is to expand the short-term spaces/pop-up shops to the West Coast in the future. (awesome!)

The furniture can be seen on the blog (here), as well as the website (www.fernnyc.com), which will launch in the coming weeks. Also, they can be contacted directly at info@fernnyc.com.
