“To make something which looks like itself is the problem, the solution.” - Richard Tuttle

"Richard Tuttle’s art breaks away from any conventional concept of form, volume or constituted space to set free the material, surface, colour and line, which are accordingly used to their full physical and emotional potential. As he sees it, a work is first and foremost, by its very nature and in its form of expression, a fragile precarious presence, yet it holds the entire history of the world in all its depth. “To make something which looks like itself is the problem, the solution.” It is as though the point were to reassert the artist’s fundamental commitment by producing, experimenting and researching using the very language of the work of art per se.
